Occasionally you come across a group or organisation that are doing great things for their community. We did just that with EK Community Litter Pickers.
Thanks to EK community litter pickers for their excellent work.
The group tackle litter hotspots in East Kilbride. With champions in each areas who highlight problems to the group. From fly-tipping to general littering and rally the volunteers to remove the rubbish.
Working with the local council, who supply bags and pickers, the volunteers collect the litter into the bags. Once the bags are full they notify the council who come and collect them. On some occasions collecting up to 50 bags at a time.
What started as a few small groups of committed people, has exploded! Their numbers have grown to over 1600 members in just four months.
We discovered this amazing group after they appeared in the industrial estate where we are based and got to work clearing the litter.
Our CEO Brian was so impressed he reached out to them to see how Highlander could help. High-vis vests were agreed as the best solution as these would help keep them to stay safe while they work.

We are so glad to be able to support them as the work this group do for the community is truly inspiring.
Hopefully, this is the start of a great partnership between Highlander and EK community litter pickers.
