“Wood” you believe it?
Highlander International are the largest independent wastepaper recyclers in Scotland. We specialise in confidential waste, product destruction and recycling machinery provision and are now launching a wood recycling and pallet recovery service, on our premises in East Kilbride near Glasgow.
Highlander has invested in state of the art machinery to fulfil an ever growing demand for wood and pallet recovery and recycling. We have partnered up with Scottish wood repurposing companies, who manufacture wood boards for the construction industry.
Pallets are essential to the logistics industry, used to transport goods across the globe. However, after a certain point, they may become damaged, unusable or outdated, leading to eventual disposal. This is where pallet recycling starts, as it allows businesses to give new life to pallets, that could otherwise be landfilled.
The comprehensive service consists of waste pallet collections, recovery of pallets in good condition, recycling of damaged pallets through shredding and subsequent onward transport of the wood chips, contributing to the circular wood recycling process. The service will be officially launched on 1st April.
As businesses around the world strive to reduce their environmental impact, pallet recycling has emerged as a popular solution for companies looking to reduce waste and conserve resources. By reusing and repurposing pallets, businesses can not only save money, but also reduce their carbon footprint and support a more sustainable future.
By introducing our own wood shredder on site, we were able to reduce our monthly transport to a third party wood recycling facility from 27 journeys to just 3, thus reducing our logistical carbon emissions by almost 89% – a saving of over 10 tons of CO2 every year and with further plans to install renewable energy sources in 2023, we will also be in a position to off-set the additional electrical consumption, our wood recycling service utilises.
Pallet recovery and recycling is a sustainable solution that offers numerous benefits to businesses and the environment. By reusing and repurposing pallets, businesses can save money, conserve natural resources, and reduce their carbon footprint. Therefore, companies should consider incorporating pallet recycling into their waste reduction strategies, to create a more sustainable future.
Highlander’s aim is to provide cost-effective and efficient paper and wood recycling services to individuals, businesses, and organisations. We are dedicated to reducing waste and preserving natural resources through the responsible collection, processing, and re-purposing of these resources.
