John’s First Velodrome Experience
Clydesdale Bank invited some of their customers to participate in their corporate cycling event at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome within Emirates Arena on Friday 18th January. Our commercial manager, John Aedy, attended on behalf of Highlander and enjoyed an action packed day!
Upon arrival at the Velodrome, John and the other attendees were given their equipment, which included a fixed wheel bike, and instructions on how to use. A fixed wheel bike has no brakes and the motion of the pedals is directly connected to the motion of the rear wheel. This was John’s first experience with this type of cycling and whilst it was daunting, he quickly adapted to it, including the different speeds required and also the steeply banked oval track – which is the steepest track in the UK! The participants enjoyed some training laps and then took part in a timed lap of the track. Whilst it was a physically shattering day, John thoroughly enjoyed the event and found it a rewarding and exciting experience.
The group then headed to the West Brewery where they enjoyed some well-deserved lunch and a chance to network. Enclosed are some photos from the day, where John was able to model Highlander’s cycle wear! Watch out Finn Harrod…John has the cycling bug!
